Özet
The aim of this research was to determine the distribution, rate of infestation and population density of bean beetle and crop losses caused by these pests on stored lentil and bean in Central Anatolia. The lentil and bean specimens were taken from Yozgat, Konya, Kırşehir and Ankara. Also only lentil specimens from Çankırı and only bean specimens from Afyon were taken.
Specimens were taken from three counties, having large and important cultivation of bean and lentil, of each province. Three villages of each county and three fields of each village were determined in order to take specimens at the time of harvest.
After the evaluation of the specimens, the results were found as follows: average rate of infestation and loss of crop were 3.03 and 0.86% respectively in Yozgat; 1.74 and 0.58% in Konya; 1.72 and 0.49% in Kırşehir; 2.13 and 0.70% in Ankara and 1.21 and 0.30% in Çankırı. The research on the germination of lentil with holed grain were also evaluated. The results were related with the rate of infestation; and the loss found by comparing with healthy and completely holed grains germination. The results were as follows: loss at 3.90 % infestation 2.60% when compared with germination of healthy grains, 65.30% when compared with germination of holed grains in Yozgat; at 2.20% infestation, the loss 2.30% in Konya; at 2.80% infestation, the loss 6.00% and 54.20% at holed grains in Kırşehir; at 6.30% infestation, 6.00% loss and 70.70% at holed grains in Ankara and at 1.60% infestation 1.30% loss at healthy grains and 69.90% loss at holed grains in Çankırı.
The beetles determined from the lentil specimens were identified as Bruchus lentis Fröhl. (Col.:Bruchidae). The beetles determined from the lentil specimens were identified as Bruchus lentis Fröhl. (Col.:Bruchidae).
All the bean specimens taken from all provinces were found not infested with beetles. It is concluded that all lentil fields examined were found to be infested with lentil beetles in Central Anatolia. Besides the presence of the pest in the crop prepared for the consumption, the loss of quality should be taken into the consideration and should be added to the sum of crop losses. So the problem of beetles and the loss of crop gets more importance.
